Hi, I am currently prototyping my first gauge. I have an Arduino Mega master board, an Uno as the stepper slave, the firmware is up to date and I am using X27.589 motors, mounted on a PCB that I designed. I have the motor moving nicely, but when calibrating it (and in game) in the HCSCI plug-in, it only moves clockwise. E.g Engine RPM Idle to max rpm, the motor increases correctly (Clockwise), but when returning to Idle, it continues clockwise, and not counter, back to idle. 

I have removed the internal stop in this motor, as it will soon be used in the altimeter, but surely it should still reverse (counter-clockwise)? I made a mistake with the first motor (with stop), and don't have any other boards made up yet, hence trying it with this one. 

I suspect it's some silly mistake that I have made, but I can't figure it out! sad

Check the direction signal wire (from pin 13)

Thanks Vlad. I had previously just plugged them all into the same row on a breadboard, I have now soldered a wire between the pins on the back of the driver board. It worked, but now I don't have much control over the motor. It jitters quite a bit and slowly rotates clockwise, on it's own. I have tried powering with an external 5V power supply, but appears to have the same problem - I wondered if it were a grounding problem. The driver also gets very hot!

How did you connect pins #2, 13, 16, 27? Am I right in saying that I should ignore the resistor and caps on the diagram on the stepper page? I have tried with the resistor on pin #26 - should that just be bridged between #26 and #1?

Hi Vlad, I am very sorry for not replying, had a crazy last week!

I haven't tried again since, but plan on it tomorrow. I wired my drivers as above, with the exception of the capacitors and resistor (for now), could that be it? I have also tried powering the slave board with the 5v output from my converted ATX PSU, should I try with a USB to the slave board as well as the master?

Capacitors are not necessary, just recommended (I have no them), but of course you should put the logical "1" to the pin 26, it can be done using the resistor as it shown. All DIR inputs are connected. No other components, NO diodes!

Power your slave board as I show here:

Use the suitable 5V wall adapter  with cable for USB socket.
